We encourage early arrival, and as such, will be kicking off the sounds promptly at noon. As always, this is a leave no trace event and carpooling is recommended. Parking can get tough so pack some snacks and stay for the day. No dogs, no fire (beach law).
****And this is important - it is Cinco de Mayo and we need to remind everyone that THERE IS NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED ON THE BEACH. We anticipate higher-than- normal police presence at Zuma and we are 100% at the mercy of their discretion. What that means is this: IF YOU ARE CAUGHT DRINKING YOU WILL BE FINED. IF YOU ARE CAUGHT IN POSSESSION OF ALCOHOL YOU WILL BE FINED.
Moreover: your actions affect our permit! If too many people are drinking at our event, WE WILL BE SHUT DOWN. Don't be a dick and fuck it up for everyone else, ESPECIALLY since we're going big with a special guest.****
We recommend leaving it in the car if you must bring it. Police can open coolers if they are on the beach. They can ask to smell your stupid red/blue/yellow/green cup. They have crazy-ass weird ghostbuster sensors that can detect alcohol that was just poured out into the sand.
This is our fourth year of beach events - don't make it our last!
And if for some reason you are a newbie and don't know who Charles is, get educated:
Charles Feelgood bio:
Point blank, Charles Feelgood loves music and even more, he loves sharing it with his fans. The man prides himself on his ability to connect with his audience – through a wicked combination of his exuberant personality and his exquisite ability to know what fills and keeps a dance floor pumpin’.
His rise to dance music infamy dates back to his humble beginnings as the leading force behind the Baltimore / Washington DC electronic music scene. Alongside his partner, and fellow DJ, Scott Henry, Feelgood launched Fever, which for nearly a decade became one of the most sought after events for touring DJs from around the world.
It was the days after starting Fever that Feelgood enhanced his reputation amongst those the international dance community. He parlayed his danceable brand of House music up and down the East coast and became renown for his creative ability to incorporate his love of 80’s music with a variety of different House styles into his sets. In the years that have followed, he has taken his talents to all ends of the earth – from North and South America to Russia and Asia, and everywhere in between. He has appeared at such seminal events as Coachella, and Lollapalooza, and has become a welcome fixture with Insomniac, Giant, and Karma Foundation. He also plays quite regularly in Los Angeles (Vanguard, Playhouse), San Francisco (Ruby Skye), and has been a part of the annual Mardi Gras festivities in New Orleans for over a decade.
Around the turn of the century, Feelgood moved from the familiarity from his East coast domain to sunny SoCal. Since the cross-county relocation he has become ensconced in the West coast scene and ramped up his production work. His initial popularity was assisted thanks in part to his legendary mixed series, "Time to Get Ill" and has continued to flourish though the release of remixes and singles such as “Hands,” “Aerobic Martini,” “Strobe Light,” and “Burnin”. He is a mainstay in the Top 100 on BeatPort and Top 10 on a number of other worldwide digital sites. In the past year Feelgood has had several releases on Major and Independent labels such as PornoStar, Instereo and Burn The Fire - remixing everything from Lady Gaga to P Diddy. He also had a breakout track called "Hands" on Ultra that made the Beatport Top 100 chart several weeks running with an Alex Kenji remix.
In 2010 Feelgood launched his first podcast “Bumpin House Madness” – an ongoing series of hour-long mixes that showcases both his music as well as some of the music he adores. The podcast is available for download on iTunes (http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/charles-feelgoods-bumpin-house/id365599645). And it doesn’t stop there. In late 2011 Feelgood is launching his own indie imprint, Supa Cuts Recordings. This label will be an outlet for Feelgood to showcase his own productions as well a platform for new talent discoveries in the dance music community. Accolades such as repeatedly being named to DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs aside, Feelgood remains committed to lighting up dance floors around the world – summing up his musical mission in one sentence: "I just want to do what the name implies, to make people have a good time and go home with a great feeling”.
Indeed.
